My fault. (I'm the CEO.) Previous versions of Eluma had a choice of search in the toolbar: google, yahoo, or MSN, Ask in the first version, and sometimes the brand's local site search, and Eluma content. This is the first end-user (non-branded) Eluma. Just before release we got caught in some licensing concerns and pulled the other search options until we could get them straight. That's been addressed and we'll have at least 3 options for users to set in the next version, 2.1, which is a few (not many) weeks away. (The team loves it when I say things like this.)
We were focused on features and bugs and usability and I thought switching to Yahoo worked well enough. I thought it was a matter of preference but not something that would upset beta users. I had no idea anyone would care that much. I was wrong. I should have caught the licensing issue earlier or waited until it was clear before releasing. It's kind of painful because it's worked for a long time and we had to do last minute work to remove the feature you want. There was no intent to force anything on users; we don't download any code from Yahoo, it's just a feature that is useful to some users. We realize that the choice is more important than the feature (to some people) and this does make it look like we're including something uninvited. Lesson learned.
I hope you can find other reasons to stick with us until the update.
